Keywords no longer used
Unless you’ve been living on a desert island, you could hardly fail to notice that the official word is that Google and Bing do not use the keywords meta tag.
Why? Well basically the keywords meta tag allows a site owner to suggest what their site is about without actually paying any attention to it’s real content and purpose. If you think about it, it really is quite pointless. It’s a bit like asking the author of a book what the story is about and whether it’s any good. Far better to read the book and form your own opinion – well Google’s or Bings’ opinion anyway.
I still find it quite amazing that websites providing site analysis still flag up major alerts about failing to provide keywords – there’s actually little point in it (and yes I know mine still includes it). When we get the nod that Yahoo have spotted its futility, I shall be getting rid.
It kind of makes sense that you should just be concentrating on good quality content and not having to bother how the search engines perceive it. Create an XML sitemap and keep your site informative and useful then let “BinGoo” tell us what it’s about. Nuff said!
